Bernard Baudry Les Granges Chinon 2019 (Loire Valley, France) "...black plum, summer fruits, violets..."
100% Cabernet Franc. Les Granges is the Baudry family's vin de bistro--a delicious, entry level Cabernet Franc designed for early drinking. It comes mostly from the Estate's younger vines (planted between 1985 and 1988) grown on the alluvial gravel soils of the terraces by the river Vienne. This is a terroir that loves long periods of dry and warm weather, which is exactly what happened in 2019.
The fruit was picked by hand, fermented cool, and then raised in a mix of concrete and large wooden vats. It's another glorious release for this juicy, dark cherry, meat and ink-noted wine, with a little more energy and powdery grip than the mouth-filling 2018. Just delicious. Don't hesitate!
"Medium bodied and fresh, this early drinking Cabernet Franc delights with lifted violet notes atop a palate of dark cherry and mountain cranberries, all supported by a pleasing tannin base. But it’s the zippy acidity which makes this a perfect summer red."
