Brackenwood Riesling 2017 (Adelaide Hills, South Australia) "...lemon pith, grapefruit, white rose..."
Brackenwood is owned by Damon Nagel, who started life as a sommelier in Adelaide before moving to London in his mid-twenties, where he worked in several of London’s top restaurants. After a number of successful years he moved back to Australia, where he purchased a stunning property in the Adelaide Hills. Here he set about establishing the Brackenwood name.
Damon has since employed Laz Horvath as winemaker. Laz was born and raised in Hungary and is a winemaker with extensive international experience. He has completed vintages in Europe (several in Burgundy), California, New Zealand and with Brackenwood in Australia since 2010. Laz lives on the Brackenwood property where he manages the vineyard and winery.
"Aromatically firm with citrus and plenty of white grapefruit pith and lemon peel. There's also a delicate white floral lift of peony or white rose. It then has a touch of weight on the mid palate, which makes it seem more gastronomic. Finishes with very cool, racy acidity. More of that grapefruit again. Certainly zingy but not in the stark, hard way of many Clare Valley examples - here the acidity sits well within the body of the wine."
