Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 (Central Otago, New Zealand)

$100.00 $108.00

Grapes were hand-picked from the Burn Cottage Vineyard in Cromwell, Central Otago between 15th and 25th March, with an average Brix at harvest of 23.4. Eight different Pinot Noir clones from nine vineyard blocks made the final blend. The ferments contained 16% whole clusters, with the wine spending an average of 20 days on skins. The wine was matured in French oak barrels (23% new) from the Damy, Mercurey and Sylvain cooperages.

A very warm vintage with above average temperatures in December and January. Midseason conditions were very calm with low wind-run and no significant rainfall, and the season was progressing well ahead of usual timing. Some rain, and then overall milder conditions in February and March meant ripening slowed favourably towards harvest. The 2018 harvest was the earliest to date commencing 13th March, with the late season conditions ensuring lovely ripeness whilst retaining balance and finesse.

"Intense, vibrant pinot noir showing real depth and complexity with nuanced floral, dark cherry and raspberry flavours together with thyme, anise, spice and a suggestion of white pepper. A backbone of fruity acidity reveals energy and helps to promote a lingering finish. A serious wine from one of Central Otago's top producers." - 96 Points, Bob Campbell (The Real Review)

"Cherries, flowers and sweet spices on the nose. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity. Round and creamy with a caressing texture and a fruity edge. Long finish. Fresh and very fine. Elegant is the word. From organically grown grapes." - 94 points. James Suckling
