Champagne Achille Princier Grande Tradition Brut NV (Champagne, France) "...dry, toasty and refreshing..."
Achille Princier Grande Tradition Brut NV is a perfect example of the new breed of Grower Champagnes. The Mansard family have been producing Champagne for over a century and today the wines are made from 80 year old vines which are their original plantings. Despite the translated tasting notes from their website being a source of merriment: "His golden robe invites you to smell the scents of citrus fruits and white fruits, which are found in the mouth. Pleasant to attack, ample, suave and balanced, this bottle will hold its rank as well as aperitif and table", you still get the idea this is an excellent wine. It also doesn't hurt the wine received two stars in the Guide Hachette, France's foremost Champagne guide.
"This Champagne from Achille Princier has fine bubbles, with a long persistence in the glass. Its aromatics are attractively yeasty, with notes of biscuit and vegemite, although I am sure the latter will appear in few offshore tasting notes. There's a creamy mousse on the palate, with medium length, and flavours of lemon and biscuit. Overall, this is a very impressive Champagne and one that I'll be buying.
