The famous Saar estate has been in the hands of the Muller family since 1797 and they currently own just over 8 hectares of the stellar Scharzhofberg vinyeard, the Saar's most qualified contender for the title of "great growth", challenging the famous sites of the Middle Mosel with ease. Egon Muller's single vineyard holding is dominated by Riesling through a small patch is planted to other varieties and he consistently produces wines of incredible purity, line and detail from the slate soils of the famous vineyard.
“The Scharzhof Riesling is our entry wine: It is made from grapes grown in our vineyards in Saarburg, Oberemmel, Wawern and the Wiltinger sites of Braunfels and Kupp. Our Scharzhof Riesling is characterised by balancing sweetness, minerality and the typical Saar acidity. Whilst it can be savoured with great enjoyment when young, it also has a storage potential of five to eight years.” - Producer
