Single vineyard red field blend of Syrah (57%) and Nebbiolo (43%).
Syrah– hand-picked in two lots (late March and early April). The early picked fruit was split in to two batches, the first being 100% whole berries the other 100% whole bunches (three weeks carbonic maceration). The later picked fruit was fermented with 100% whole bunches with three weeks carbonic maceration.
Nebbiolo– hand-picked in late April. 100% whole berry fermentation with 4 months extended maceration on skins. All components received 12 months élevage in French oak barriques prior to bending.
Garnet in colour, this charismatic wine displays aromas of fennel seed, wild raspberry and red cherry. The palate is light, spicy and structural, woven with juicy berries, mocha and liquorice. A web of fine tannins carry through the savoury finish.
"The blend follows the 100% nebbiolo of '16, possibly because the vintage was too cool, or nebbiolo was simply in one of its moods. Red, sour and black cherry fruit is encased in a fine but relentless web of tannins. It's a style that comes alight with food." - 94 Points, James Halliday, The Wine Companion
