Fletcher 'Recta Pete' Barbaresco 2014 (Piedmont, Italy) "...pepper, cherries, concentrated"
50% Treiso from 350m in altitude, this is one of the cooler areas of Barbaresco and selected because of this reason, and 50% Barbaresco commune. The soils have a higher percentage of sand than clay and almost a direct South exposure. Here the vines have an average age of 15 years and are of massal selection. Aged for two and a half years in 300L barriques.
The wines themselves have been produced in the same manner as the ‘The Minion’ (The Australian Nebbiolo Blend), open fermenters, natural yeast and only barriques with a small percentage of new wood. - David Fletcher
Walter Speller, www.Jancisrobonson.com: "Fletcher, Recta Pete 2014 BarbarescoTasted blind. Barbaresco. Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Concentrated, brooding nose with peppery note. Nebbiolo markers slowly rising from the glass. Youthful cherry palate with supple red fruit and a wonderful dose of unpolished, chewy tannins. Pure and direct." - 17.5/20
