Freycinet Pinot Noir 2017 (Freycinet, Tasmania) "...spicy cherries, raspberries and cedar..."
Freycinet Vineyard has a fine track record and a reputation for producing exemplary Pinot Noirs going back to 1988. The Vineyard bloodline and pedigree in this wine is unmistakable. As always, the wine is a delicious expression of the grape, our site and the season. The 2016 Vintage is a classic Freycinet Pinot. A deep crimson colour, with arresting aromas and a succulent dark plum and black cherry palate. The aroma and flavour purity has an abundance of complexity, colour and tannins typical of our site.
This follows the 2015 Vintage was included in James Halliday’s TOP 100 for 2016 with the comment:
“From the first estate plantings (1980) at this vineyard on Tasmania’s East Coast, matured in French oak for 12 months. The colour and bouquet are good, the palate another thing again, soaring with its energy and drive, its length prodigious. Complex, earthy dark fruits are tied together by savoury tannins of the highest quality.” - James Halliday, Wine Companion (97 Points)
"Alluring aromas of spicy black cherries, ripe raspberries and plum fruits combine with a subtle perfume of game, truffle and cedar. The vibrant palate is smooth and even with plenty of ripe berry and plum flavours intermingled with sweet oak nuances, fine savoury tannins and the important velvety mouth feel. Great food matches can be made with venison, quail, duck, turkey, home made Italian lasagne, ravioli, gnocchi and other pasta dishes. Extra mellow textures and intriguing forest floor characteristics will develop with careful cellaring aiming for a constant, cool temperature over 10 to 20 years. This is Freycinet’s flagship wine for the lovers of fine red Burgundies." - Producer
