Garagiste Merricks Pinot Noir 2018
Expect a juicy personality packed with spiced cherry, grenadine, subtle nettle and classy wood spice leading to a lingering, perfumed finish and a lick of fine tannin.
Sourced from the Merricks Grove vineyard, the fruit for this wine was hand-sorted twice and fermented in two ways: one fermenter of whole berries and another of 100% whole bunches. These two portions were then blended together. Both fermentations were natural with a reasonably long maceration and yet gentle extraction--light pump-overs and a few gentle plunges.
The wine matured in 300-litre hogsheads (roughly 20% new, François Frères) and spent eleven months on lees before bottling, unfiltered. It's a supple and savoury expression of the shire, dangerously drinkable from start to finish.
