Helen's Hill 'Long Walk' Pinot Noir 2019 (Yarra Valley, Victoria) "...cherry, spice, silky..."
Helen’s Hill Estate is 100% family owned vineyard located in Coldstream and one of the Yarra Valley’s finest. Only small select parcels of fruit from certain rows of the single vineyard site are hand-picked at harvest for the Helen’s Hill range of wines. Each wine is fermented in select French oak barrels under the watchful eye of winemaker Scott McCarthy. Prior to bottling each barrel is tasted and ranked with only the best barrels being selected.
From the winery: “Our Helen’s Hill “Long Walk” Pinot Noir is one of our hallmark wines. All the fruit is fermented in open top fermenters before being transferred to French oak for maturation. Different clones to Pinot Noir wine are like patches on a patch work quilt: individually, they look good, but put them all together and they are sensational.”
"A mix of clones, Selectiv’-harvested, open-fermented, matured in French oak (25% new) for 11 months. This is a very good wine from a vintage that ripened grapes of all varieties very quickly. Crystal clear varietal expression of cherries and spices that immediately announce their quality, the palate going further with a freshness and intensity of red fruit flavours, silky tannins and integrated quality oak the ribbon to seal the parcel." - 95 points, James Halliday Wine Companion
