Hofer Family Wines Lagrein 2019 (Langhorne Creek, South Australia) "...blackberry, plum, mocha..."
Hofer Family Wines was officially established in the year 2017. Owner and winemaker Marcus Hofer together with assistant winemaker David Sinclair has been producing high quality, small batch wines for more than 5 years. These unique wines are created using a combination of both old world and new winemaking techniques. The team also ensures minimal handling and the use of mild oak to produce interesting varietals and blends.
"A surge of power with smooth edges best describes this. It smells of black plums, liquorice, dried red flowers and some char. Dark chocolate adds another layer of interest as a fine dusting of spice skirts the edge of the mouth with good acidity which will help it age gracefully. Much more refined than the previous release and with good use of oak, that soft finish brings some moreish appeal. Long and persistent, perhaps this may well be Marcus Hofer's best Lagrein release. "Lagrein is a red wine grape variety native to the valleys of South Tyrol, northern Italy. Along with Marzemino, it is a descendant of Teroldego, and related to Syrah, Pinot noir and Dureza. The name suggests its origins lie in the Lagarina valley of Trentino" - 91 Points, Australian Wine Showcase Magazine
