Kelley Fox Wines is a small winery (since 2007) with the production based on my blocks in two vineyards: Demeter-certified biodynamic Momtazi Vineyard (vines planted in 1998) and biodynamically farmed blocks of Maresh Vineyard. These self-rooted vines were planted mostly in 1970 (one acre was planted in 1978).
The Maresh and the Momtazi bottlings so far have been 100% free-run. The wines are settled-separately-before barrelling down Malolactic fermentations to date have been spontaneous. Bottling is about 11 months post-picking and on biodynamically-favourable dates. Most often I don’t rack my wines once the barrels are filled at harvest until assemblage/bottling. Zero new oak since 2012 and going forward.
"(raised in neutral French oak barrels) Limpid red. Sharply focused dark berry, cherry pit and pungent oral scents, along with smoky mineral and cola flourishes. Sweet and concentrated yet lively on the palate, intense black raspberry, cherry cola and violet pastille flavors that deepen and become spicier on the back half. Clings with superb tenacity on the gently tannic finish, which features sappy dark fruit and succulent herb qualities as well as an exotic jolt of spice powder." - 94 Points, Josh Raynolds
