Mr Hyde High and Dry Mourvedre 2015 (Adelaide Hills, South Australia) "...dark berry, cedar, clove..."
Fruit 100% sourced from the Trillian's Hill vineyard in Penwortham, 17 years old, 500 metres above sea level, dry farmed, hand pruned, cold soaked for 3 days, 16 months in seasoned French oak hogshead, bottled unfined and unfiltered.
This is the ‘Mr Hyde’ to Kilikanoon’s Dr Jekyll, if you get the drift. A sub-brand created by Kilikanoon’s Jono Koerner, with the intent of some flair to winemaking and a touch of freedom outside of Kilikanoon’s strata. It’s a single vineyard, dry farmed, unfiltered, unfined mourvedre that sees 16 months in seasoned oak barrels. On paper it doesn’t seem to stray too far from the parent entity… The label however offers a Robert Crumb meets Terry Gilliam meets stoner doodle (complete with flying bongs, images of fingers holding joints and marijuana leaf-esque symbols) image fest. Curious.

"Nice drink, easy drink. Toasty, twiggy oak scents, cedar, clove too, over dark berry, mulberry, plummy aromas. Palate is juicy, bright, dusted with twiggy/clove oakiness and offers a sluice of frisky forest berry fruitiness with gentle spice. It’s simple in its way, slips down well. Oak is a feature, and the wine feels pretty much mourvedre 101, after all." - Winefront
"A beautiful beast. Not too sweet it shows lovely balance with enough savoury tone to keep it real." - The Adelaide Review (Hot 100 wines of 2017/18)
