Nielson by Byron Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir 2014 (California, USA) "...black cherry, smoked meat, hibiscus..."
"From Santa Maria Valley in Santa Barbara County, California, this pinot is very new-world with its complete bouquet of oak, spice, blue and red fruit berries, and a touch of cinnamon. It has a generously sized palate, the front of which has a distinct bubble of berry fruit showing some elements of its ripeness and alcohol. That said, the flavours remain cool, and in the blue fruit spectrum. It has lovely weight, a complex palate of fruit and spice, and finishes with good length and sufficient vif to round it all up and satisfy. If you like the best NZ pinot you will enjoy this. Really good value." - 93 Points, World Wine
"Luscious black cherries and touches of sultry smoked pork are deftly brightened with fresh hibiscus aromas on the nose of this bottling from the Byron family of wines. The hibiscus joins pomegranate on the palate, lifted by a pinch of lavender and candied lilacs and leveled by an elegant slate earthiness." - 89 Points, Wine Enthusiast
