O'Leary Walker Watervale Riesling 2017 (Clare Valley, South Australia) "...lemon, herbs, dried flowers..."
Neil and Heather Grace's vineyard has classic Watervale soils, red loam over limestone, with a westerly aspect. Grace's "dry-grown" vineyard is hand-pruned and hand-picked and relies only on the natural rainfall. The limestone is able to retain moisture and assist the vine throughout periods of warm weather, almost drought-proofing in the summer months. Viticultural practices include vertical shoot positioning which not only encourages even ripening but provides important shade to prevent the impact of sunburn on the resultant wine.
"Light to medium yellow hue, with a slightly musty first nose, which also has lemon pith, dried herbs and dried flowers. The palate is delicate and intense, intensely flavoured and structured with driving acidity giving it tang and focus. A piercing wine with a bright future." - Huon Hooke (91 Points)
