Rippon 'Mature Vine' Pinot Noir 2017 (Central Otago, New Zealand) "...wood spice, wild herbs, earth..."
On the 2016 vintage:
"This is such profoundly complex pinot with violets, dark cherries, plums, blueberries, graphite, black tea, peppery nuances, licorice and woody spices, all taking a role on the nose. The palate has such density and precision, delivering a powerfully composed and profoundly concentrated core of blueberry and dark-cherry flavor in a layered and refined style. Such impressive depth and character. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold." - 97 Points, James Suckling
"This Lake Wanaka red has a long, proud history. Estate-grown but not a single-block wine – winemaker Nick Mills views it as 'the farm voice' – it is typically a very elegant, 'feminine' style, rather than a blockbuster. Hand-picked from ungrafted vines planted between 1985 and 1991, the 2015 vintage was fermented with indigenous yeasts, matured in French oak barrels, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. A wine with a powerful presence, it is deeply coloured, fragrant and weighty, with concentrated plum/spice flavours, savoury and structured. A very harmonious wine, it should be long-lived; open 2020+." - 5 Stars, Michael Cooper
