La Carlina Barbera d'Asti Superiore 'Bionzo' DOCG 2018 (Piedmont, Italy)

The brother and sister duo of Camilla and Francesco Scavino founded this small winery in 2014 at the foot of the Medieval castle that towers over the village of Grinzane Cavour.

The name “La Carlina” is a reference to the farm of their grandmother where the family would celebrate and party, which is also the place where Camilla and Francesco began experimenting with winemaking as teenagers. Vineyards are scattered between the hills of the Langhe and Monferrato, and farming is organic.

La Carlina’s releases are progressive examples of Piedmont’s landscape – Deeply colored, opulent wines with tremendous purity and sense of place

100% Barbera

"A ripe and generous Barbera, juicy with a wealth of ripe berry fruity flavors, but also deep and quite complex from so much sweet spices of cedar notes. Grippy, velvety tannins and a salty feel make you salivate even more while the richness of the fruity characters delight. A faceted wine then it is, full of interesting built-in personalities despite its young age."

"Sour cherry, plums and some floral notes aromas. Lovely juicy texture on the palate and a pure finish." - Decanter World Wine Awards 2019
